ISLAMABAD: The Overseas Pakistani’s Foundation (OPF) conducted a special ‘Urdu-English Inter Colleges Speech Contest’ in connection with the International Migrants Day on Tuesday, 19th December 2017 at the OPF Boys College H-8/4, Islamabad.
OPF Chairman Barrister Amjad Malik was the chief guest of the event.
The main theme of the contest was ‘The young generation; their challenges and opportunities’. The debaters spoke passionately on the given topic and it was evident that the students were well prepared as they used various skills like overstatement, definition, and irony to convince the audience.
“We have had a motivating speech contest and it reminds me of my student life when we used to participate in such fruitful activities. Passion backed by a strong argument is always required to execute your skills of oratory and I am glad that the students have displayed both. The topic was vigilantly chosen and well executed. Our new generation is living in an era which is both testing and demanding, this era is marked with an excessive use of technology and yet every now and then we hear about human advancements owing to technology”, said the OPF chairman while appreciating the students.
Commenting on “Migrants Day”, barrister Amjad Malik pointed out that it is celebrated with reference to overseas Pakistani who sacrificed their happiness to benefit their families and ultimately the country. These people sent home $20.5 billion in remittance in 2016, an increase of 5.1% over 2015.
According to the World Bank Pakistan, remittance was 7.5% of its 2015 GDP of $270 billion, this contributes to almost 7% to the country’s GDP.
At the end, the chairman appreciated the efforts of OPF Education Research and Training Director-General Saif Ur Rehman and his staff put into the function.
