Third polio case emerges in Balochistan due to anti-vaccine inclinations

QUETTA: It seems Pakistan has not been able to get rid of the menace of polio from the entire country, as a third polio case has emerged in the province of Balochistan, on Monday.

The fresh polio case of a 16-months-old child surfaced in Gulistan tehsil of Qilla Abdullah district, health department stated, adding that the parents of the child had refused the anti-polio vaccinations when provided.

The first case of polio was reported in July this year from Chaman area of the same district, Qilla Abdullah, while the second case was reported recently from Pashtun-dominated Zhob.

It may be mentioned here the case comes at a time when a province-wide polio drive has taken off in Balochistan.

The total count of the polio victims in the country this year has reached eight, while Qilla Abdullah is considered to be a high-risk area in Balochistan due to three polio cases.
