KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Monday rejected the education department’s appeal against the verdict of a Tribunal which had ordered payment of salaries to 19 education employees.

At its Karachi Registry, the apex court heard the education department’s plea against the Tribunal verdict pertaining to the illegal appointment in education department. Additional Advocate General (AG) Sarwar Khan informed the court that 397 people were appointed without post-sanction in the education department and the department now could not pay them salaries as there was no budget.

In his remarks, Justice Sajjad Ali Shah told Additional AG that the appointments were the achievement of your government. Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that why the employees were not sacked if they were appointed illegally.

The court said that as long as the employees were on duty, their salaries could not be stopped. It dismissed the education department’s appeal against the tribunal’s decision.
