Faulty parking at Karachi’s University Road irks commuters

KARACHI: The newly constructed University Road in Karachi has failed to serve its purpose of smooth traffic flow as hundreds of vehicles are parked illegally on the main road and service roads, especially before eateries, bakeries and sweet meat shops from Hassan Square to NIPA Chowrangi.

Motorists and commuters have to wait in traffic jams while commuters walk on the road as footpaths are fully encroached by owners of eateries.

Though traffic police are seen in the area, they do not remove the wrongly parked vehicles. They even do not give parking violation tickets to the owners of cars wrongly parked.

The East District Municipal Corporation is hand in glove with the owners of eateries of Hassan Square and adjourning areas.

“The municipal corporation does not take any serious action,” citizens complained.

Recently, the Chief Minister (CM) House also took the notice of the matter and ordered stern action against the encroachers, but an action is yet to be taken.

Citizens have requested the Karachi DIG (Traffic) to order the traffic cops posted between the Hassan Square and NIPA Chowrangi to toe away wrongly parked vehicles and also issue fine tickets to the violators.
