ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to submit details about its intra-party polls by Dec 27.
The ECP summoned details of results, candidates, and votes from the party while hearing a petition filed by a former PTI leader Yousuf Ali, on alleged discrepancies in the party’s intra-party polls held earlier this year.
Ali, after filing the petition before the ECP, had asked the commission to declare the intra-poll elections held earlier this year, null and void, on grounds of violation of polling process by the party.
ECP was told by the petitioner’s lawyer that necessary legal formalities were not completed by the party while amending the party constitution on May 13.
The lawyer also told the ECP that the party’s constitution could only be changed in case of a two-thirds majority of the Central Executive Council supporting it.
As per the amended constitution, 2.7 million voters had to decide between PTI Chairman Imran Khan and party leader Naik Muhammad Khan.
