Sindh Additional Advocate General Sarwar Khan admitted there were hundreds of illegal appointments in the Sindh Education Department, before a two-member bench of Supreme Court’s Karachi registry.
Khan informed the court on Monday, that as many as 397 people were recruited without post-sanction and the department now could not afford to pay them their salaries due to budget constraints.
Justice Sajjad Ali Shah remarked that this has been a ‘remarkable achievement’ by the Sindh government. Justice Gulzar Ahmed observed, ‘If the people are unqualified for the posts, why didn’t the government relieve them from their duties after issuing a show-cause notice’?
The Supreme Court’s Karachi registry noted that as long as the employees were on duty their salaries cannot be stopped. The court dismissed the education department’s appeal against the tribunal’s decision. The tribunal had ordered to issue salaries of 19 employees.
