Punjab Healthcare Minister orders elimination of fake and substandard medicines

LAHORE: Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Minister, Khawaja Imran Nazir has directed all the District Quality Control Boards (DQCBs) to play an effective role for the elimination of spurious and substandard medicines from the province.

“It is the prime responsibility of the government to provide quality medicines to the citizens and that a strict action will be taken against those who are playing with the lives of people”, he stated while presiding over a meeting to review the performance of the DQCBs of all districts, here on Sunday.

Drug Wing Additional Secretary Muhammad Sohail, chief drug controller, DQCBs secretaries of all the districts and other officers attended the meeting.

Khawaja Imran directed the DQCBs secretaries to dispose of pending cases of fake medicines on a priority basis. He said that no delay in the cases would be acceptable unless it is a genuine reason and that they should send all the cases to the Provincial Quality Control Board (PQCB) without any delay so that decisions could be made by fulfilling the demand of justice.

He also said that drug inspectors, officers of drug wing and all DQCBs should discharge their duty with the spirit of serving the nation for the elimination of fake drugs from the province.
