DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A policeman was killed as an unidentified attacker opened fire on a police team in the limits of Paharpur police station here on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, the police started snap checking at Marwan bridge following information that a suspected person was travelling in a vehicle in Pharpur area.
As the suspected vehicle appeared, the police party signalled it to stop. Instead of stopping, an unidentified gun-man accelerated the car and also started to fire on police party.
As a result, constable Sanaullah received critical bullet injuries and was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital. The police retaliated the fire but the attacker managed to flee after sneaking into a nearby dense sugarcane crop.
Police cordoned off the area and started search operation to nab the culprit involved in killing the constable on duty.
