‘Have you ever run a campaign,’ Imran mockingly asks Nawaz
OKARA: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said Sunday that Nawaz Sharif will even storm the courts to save Rs 300 billion which he looted from Pakistan.
Addressing a public rally at a football ground in Okara, Imran Khan said that he provided 60 documents during judicial proceedings in the disqualification reference filed against him, while Nawaz Sharif only had to show a Qatari letter to justify his immense wealth.
Mocking the deposed prime minister, the PTI chief asked, “Have you ever run a campaign?”
He said that corruption was always carried out by political parties while holding power at the centre. “I have never been in power at the federal level,” said Imran.
He directed his remarks at Nawaz Sharif after the latter showed extreme displeasure over the Supreme Court’s decision to grant the PTI chief a clean chit in a reference filed against him in the apex court.
Throwing a challenge at all political rivals, Imran Khan said that, “Since the last four years, PTI has been in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Ask anyone if they have ever seen me build any factory, take a loan or get involved in nepotism. If anyone can prove even one act of corruption against me, I will leave politics for good.”
He also said that if Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was so certain that they had the peoples support with them, then there was no need for the party to shy away from holding early elections.
Commenting on the apex court’s judgement to disqualify PTI leader Jehangir Tareen for life from politics, Imran Khan said that no financial wrongdoing was found against Tareen and he was disqualified “only on interpretation of trust deed”.
Condemning the terrorist attack on a church in Quetta, the PTI chief asked the participants to guard the rights of minorities to ensure that peace prevailed in the country.
He said that the nation should give equal rights to minorities so that they could enjoy equal participation in the nation building process.
Earlier, the party chairman arrived at the venue and was seated alongside other top PTI leaders, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, Aleem Khan, and others on a 80-feet long stage which was specially designed for the rally. Preparations were also made for a helipad at a cricket ground near the rally site.
