JI rallies in Karachi against Trump’s Jerusalem move

KARACHI: The chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Sirajul Haq, called on all Muslim nations to suspend diplomatic ties with the US until it reconsiders its Jerusalem decision.

Siraj was speaking to participants of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Million March in Karachi against US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The anti-US rally, led by JI chief Siraj-ul-Haq, was taken out from NIPA to Hassan Square.

The participants of the rally were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of the Palestinians and against the US president.

The JI rally warned the US president of widening the scope of protest across the world, saying they would continue the protest till the announcement was reversed.

They said the US president was acting against the sentiments of Muslims which would never be tolerated at any cost. They demanded the US president reverse his announcement that had caused anger among whole Muslim world.

Speaking on the occasion, Sirajul Haq said that his party was holding the march to express solidarity with the people of Palestine. He strongly flayed the US president’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

He said the JI wanted to unite the ‘Ummah’ as a family, as he stressed the need for an honest leadership for the independence of Kashmir and Baitul Muqaddas.

Earlier this month, the JI announced to hold countrywide protests over the Jerusalem issue.

The JI had set up camps at the key points on all roads in Karachi to facilitate to participants of the million march. Hafiz Naeemur Rehan, JI’s Karachi chief, visited the camps on Friday night and also held meetings with different delegations of people. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman also distributed handbills and urged the masses to participate in the march.

Naeem also held meetings with Allama Muhammad Salfi, Maulana Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi, Mufti Muhammad Zubair and leaders of the Karachi Bar Association who announced their support for the party’s million march.

A fresh wave of violence has erupted on the Gaza Strip border following US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. As protests entered the second week, at least four Palestinians were shot dead and 150 others wounded by Israeli troops over the weekend.

Most of the casualties were on the Gaza Strip border, where thousands of Palestinians gathered to protest against Israeli soldiers beyond the fortified fence. Medics said the dead included a wheelchair-bound Palestinian.
