ICT admin chalks out plan to curb illegal fishing in Rawal Dam

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has ensured round-the-clock deployment of staff from the Fisheries Department and Small Dam Organisation to curb illegal fishing in Rawal Dam.

The Rawal Dam is under the administrative control of Small Dam Organisation, Irrigation Department, Punjab. In regard to fish mortality, the ICT administration registered a first information report (FIR) in Secretariat police station in July this year against miscreants living around the dam and involved in illegal fishing.

Official sources said that in light of the above-mentioned FIR, police had arrested some persons who were later acquitted by the court.

Regarding steps taken by ICT administration for avoiding recurrence of such incidents, the sources said that the Small Dam Organisation was advised to erect a fence around the lake, which was currently in progress.

At present, drinking water is being provided to residents of the federal capital from Simly Dam and Khanpur Dam. The water of Rawal Dam is supplied to residents of Rawalpindi by Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) after undergoing proper treatment.
