ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Taekwondo player Ammar Ashfaq Ahmed has once again shown his skills by winning a Gold medal in the National Taekwondo Championship held on Sunday at Liaquat Gymnasium, Islamabad.
After the victory, the 14-year-old, at the threshold of 15, now holds the title of the national champion, termed as a big achievement.
Ashfaq participated in under 17 men’s 68 kg category, in which 37 players tried their luck, while, overall, the tournament welcomed 1,300 players from across the country.
Ashfaq also represented Pakistani side in the Paris Open in Taekwondo Championship last month.
In October 2017, Ashfaq bagged a silver medal at the 2nd UAE Korean Friendship Taekwondo Championship, which was at Sharjah Youth Centre. The UAE’s national team coach Abdullah Hatim had praised his performance, saying that Ashfaq was the only player from Pakistan who participated in the UAE championship.
In the recent past, Colonel (r) Waseem Ahmed, president of Pakistan Taekwondo Federation, had said that Ammar Ashfaq was a promising player and showing gradual but steady growth. “We hope that he will perform well for Pakistan at other international competitions,” he had stated.
