LAHORE: A cabinet committee has been formed to look after the appointment of Vice Chancellors (VC) in eight public sector universities of Punjab, according to a report by a private media outlet.
The committee has been formed on the orders of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the notification has been issued by Punjab Higher Education Department (HED). The committee consists of seven members including HED Minister Raza Ali Gillani, Punjab chief secretary and other officials from the HED department.
Punjab government has also revised the criteria for the VC position in all the public sector universities, the condition of the candidates having a PhD has been relaxed and the committee holds the authority to nominate a candidate for the position of VC unlike the previous practice of forwarding three names to the chief minister out of which one was selected.
