KARACHI: Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Saturday said that better economic results in the country can only be achieved through political stability and that if hurdles are created in this path, the progress will be affected.
Rafique was addressing the media at Karachi’s City Station. He further said that earlier provincial governments were not interested in the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project; however, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has shown interest.
He told the media that he had met CM Shah on Friday and work has now started on the project. Referring to Main Line 1 (ML1), the track running from Karachi to Peshawar, the minister said he said there is a need to upgrade the track.
He added that the conditions of the loan should suit the organisation and the cost should suit the country. He further said that the project will take some time to complete but it will be useful for the country for a long time to come.
Rafique said that the profit for the year was Rs40 billion, and the target for next year is Rs50bn.
