Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Friday said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) saved the Sharif family in the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case by presenting a very weak case to the judges.
Addressing a party rally in Tando Mohammad Khan, Imran said, “They [NAB] didn’t prepare the Hudaibiya cases rightly, its injustice to this nation that 14 billion rupees of this nation have been stolen.”
He said the entire nation has its sight set upon NAB whether it catches the big fish or not.
It may be mentioned here that the Supreme Court had rejected a petition seeking the disqualification of Imran Khan, however his party colleague Jahangir Khan Tareen has been disqualified for life for being “dishonest”.
Bashing the NAB, Imran said that “It was good that Shehbaz Sharif wasn’t disqualified,” adding that now Shehbaz “wouldn’t be able to play with a weak team”.
Earlier on Friday, a three-member apex court bench dismissed the NAB’s appeal to reopen the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case. The one-line order, read out by Justice Alam, stated that NAB’s appeal to reopen the case was dismissed and a detailed verdict would be issued later.
Boasting of PTI’s good governance in the KP province, Imran said that the police was working without any interference of political elements, which was why it was the best in the country.
The PTI chief said that his government, after coming into power in Sindh, will increase the education system of the province.
Lamenting the lack of development in Sindh and Balochistan, he said, “It was sad for him to announce that these provinces lag far behind from KP and Punjab.”
Earlier, a new outlet reported that over 15,000 chairs were set up at the Sohri Sugar Mills ground for the rally.
Imran is presently on a four-day visit to Karachi. The party has been holding a string of public rallies in Punjab and Sindh for the past few months.
PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry meanwhile said Friday that the way the NAB presented its appeal before the Supreme Court, “this was bound to happen”.
He was referring to the apex court’s dismissal of NAB’s plea to reopen the Rs1.2 billion Hudaibiya Paper Mills reference against the Sharif family. The reference was struck down by the Lahore High Court.
Addressing the media outside the Supreme Court, Chaudhry said they had serious reservations over the conduct of NAB’s prosecution department in the case.
Criticising the “non-serious attitude of NAB,” Chaudhry said the “Supreme Court judges were not guided the right way. Basic documents of the case were not attached to the appeal”.
He said the case involved loot of public funds, adding that it was a great disservice to the people if there was no probe into the matter.
The PTI leader said if a PTI government was formed, they would take the matter to its logical conclusion.
He added that the party would review the detailed order of the case once the detailed judgment was released.
