Firdous Ashiq Awan in hot waters, customs officials recover smuggled car from driver

LAHORE: Rawalpindi customs department on Thursday seized a smuggled and non-custom-paid car allegedly owned by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan.

A Toyota Land Cruiser was recovered in Islamabad from Awan’s driver as customs officials took an action after receiving intelligence-based information. Rawalpindi customs department registered a case against Awan’s driver after arresting him and seizing the car.

It was immediately verified that the car was non-custom-paid and smuggled, as its chassis number had been tampered with. The arrested driver confessed before the law enforcers that the vehicle belonged to Awan.

On the other hand, Awan has rejected all claims and stated that the vehicle belonged to her cousin which she borrowed after having an accident with her own car. “Both the car and driver belong to my cousin Tehsin Awan who should be asked whether the vehicle is legal or illegal,” she argued before the media.
