Congress seeks Modi’s apology over Pakistan remark

NEW DELHI: The parliament session in India on Thursday will begin with the Congress demanding an apology from the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his Pakistan remark reports DNA India.

During an election rally in his home state, Gujarat, Modi had alleged that former PM Manmohan Singh and other senior members of Congress were colluding with Pakistan for Gujarat Assembly polls.

Talking to reporters, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday said, “For the first time a prime minister has accused former PM, former vice president and diplomats of conspiring with Pakistan for Gujarat elections. PM must clarify in the parliament.”

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi also hit out at Modi for dragging Pakistan into the Gujarat elections, saying that rather than talking about foreign countries in his election campaign speeches in Gujarat, the prime minister should say something about the state.

Ahead of the session, Modi said that he expected a ‘fruitful session.’ He also said that he hopes for positive and innovative arguments.”

A day after Modi’s allegations, the Foreign Office in Islamabad hit back and asked not to be dragged into Indian electoral battles.

In a statement on Monday, the Foreign Office said that Modi’s allegations – of a recent ‘secret’ three-hour meeting attended by Pakistani and Indian opposition party officials – were fabricated conspiracies, which are utterly baseless and irresponsible.
