Though Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has seen a decline in the overall crime rate in the ongoing year, the city still faces a lot of extortion and terrorism related problems.

The police reported around 71 cases of extortion and 126 cases of terrorism in the provincial capital in the current year.

According to last year’s police report, around 91 cases of extortion were reported. Police said that the number could be higher keeping in view that most individuals paid the ransom and refrained from approaching the police.

In the same year, around 258 cases of terrorism were reported in the province. The picture is different this year as terrorism related cases have declined by 51 per cent in KP.

In addition, around 19 cases of kidnapping for ransom were reported in the province as compared to 21 cases last year. Police reports also showed that around 2,207 people were murdered in the province as compared to 2,372 in 2016.
