ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Television (PTV) Chairman Attaul Haq Qasmi has resigned from the post due to differences with Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzaib.
Reportedly, the Ministry of Information handed over additional charge of managing director (MD) PTV to Federal Secretary for Information Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera without consulting Qasmi, which distressed the latter.
Qasmi has sent his resignation to the secretary information.
Former MD PTV Muhammad Malick left the post of MD PTV vacant a year ago, after the completion of his three-year tenure as MD.
On December 11, the Establishment Division had issued a notice in this regard, which stated: “Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera, a BS-22 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, presently posted as Secretary Information, Broadcasting Division is assigned additional charge of the post of managing director PTV in addition to his own duties for a period of three months or till the posting of regular incumbent whichever is earlier.”
The above notice was withdrawn a few hours later by the federal government and a new notification was issued on Dec 12 without the three-month clause.
The new notification issued by Establishment Division said: “In partial modification and continuation of this notification of even number dated 11-12-2017, Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera, a BS-22 officer of PAS, Secretary Information and Broadcasting Division is assigned additional charge of the post of managing director PTVC in addition to his own duties till further orders”.
The Information Ministry had run an advertisement for the post of MD around two months ago but failed to select a permanent head of the state corporation.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had also directed the Information Ministry to appoint PTV’s MD as soon as possible.
