MOHALI: Indian captain and prolific batsman Rohit Sharma has hit a record fourth double ton in One Day Internationals (ODIs) to put India on top in Mohali. India ended their innings by posting a humongous 392/4 to all but wipe Sri Lanka out of the match.

Sharma who is the stand-in captain in place of Virat Kohli, who has been rested for the ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka, has made a mark after facing criticism after India sustained a seven wicket defeat against Sri Lanka on a seam friendly Dharamshala pitch. Rohit started off cautiously against Mathews who has got him out nine times in his international career before. Tentative Sharma got off the mark after nine deliveries.

However, once he got going he steadied the Indian innings and held it together by rotating the strike in the middle overs and making sure that they didn’t lose wickets until the 40th over. India were 245/1 in 40 overs, youngster Shreyas Iyer scored briskly, on the other side. However, Sharma took off and didn’t look back after getting to his hundred. India scored a whopping 147 in the last 10 overs to reach an almost invincible target of 392.

Sri Lanka has been Sharma’s favorite opposition as his second double century also came against them, where he made the 264 – the highest individual total in ODIs.
