LAHORE: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited’s (SNGPL) Imran Butt who was in Lahore Qalandars’ squad for next year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) has tested postive on a random doping test carried out by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) during the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. As a part of the formal standard operating procedure he has been suspended from playing all forms of cricket for now.

The 21-year-old Butt was in contention to play the third edition edition of PSL III with Lahore Qalandars, however, now he stares at a maximum two year ban if he fails to justify himself in front of an inquiry committee which will be formed by the PCB soon.

As recently as 2015, Pakistan’s lead spinner Yasir Shah failed a doping test conducted in United Arab Emirates (UAE), however, he was handed a three-month ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after Shah maintained that he had accidentally taken the pills of his wife. In the past, Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif had been banned for testing positive for doping.
