ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member Senator Taj Haider said Wednesday that it is unfortunate that instead of studying the two-page PPP proposals and focusing on the recommendations regarding population census, the incumbent government is indulged in wild accusations against the PPP, which have no relevance to the fair conduct of Post Enumeration Survey (PES).
In a statement, Taj Haider said that the ministers of sitting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government were using the most derogatory language against PPP in their ‘sincere’ efforts to achieve a “consensus”. He said no objection had been raised on the points included in the PPP proposal, adding that we are not sure if the PPP proposals have even been read by the government or not.
The PPP senator said that the related questions for a fair conduct of PES included: Who should be the third party to conduct the PES? What should be the method and what tools should be used for conducting the PES? Would readjustment of the total counts be made if the figures obtained in the survey widely differed from those obtained in 2017 census.
He further said that institutions were being dragged in to an artificially created conflict and were being portrayed in an imaginary anti-democratic role. Confusion, paranoia and unfounded fears were being widely spread by the sitting government, he added.
He also said that despair and despondency have replaced the general trust and hope of the people in the democratic order. No move towards finding a logical correction of the earlier mistakes through internationally accepted and known scientific methods was being made, he added.
Moreover, Taj Haider said that there were more than 185 countries where population census was conducted in an easy and transparent scientific manner, adding that Pakistan should also follow the same route.
