Pensioners suffer as corrupt officials reign at Punjab AG office

LAHORE: Punjab Accountant General (AG) is facing a shortage of employees due to which corrupt officials at the pension branch seek a bribe from pensioners and those who come with a problem, Pakistan Today has learnt.

Those who refuse to pay bribes are made to suffer by raising objections on their applications and are made to come again and again.

According to details, two clerks namely Adeel and Saeed at the pension branch of the AG office were involved in corruption of Rs60 million. Both of them were taken into custody by NAB, which also recovered a certain amount from Adeel.

People working in different government departments have said that they have completed 25 years of service after which they submitted their pension books to the AG office. “We are tired of coming over and over again as we are told to take our pension books back because there is a shortage of employees at the pension branch as people are under NAB’s custody,” they said and added that the staff which is present asks for a bribe.

The affected employees have asked the authorities concerned to take notice of the situation.

When contacted, Punjab AG Karamat Bukhari said that he has been transferred therefore he cannot say anything on the matter.
