Federal govt responsible for sugarcane growers’ plight: Sindh CM

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that his government has vowed to give additional subsidy for exporting sugar so that crushing season of sugar mills could be started but still the federal government has not issued notification in this regard.

Talking to media at First Tripartite Labour Conference at a local hotel, he said that the provincial government was sincere with sugarcane growers and had notified support rate of Rs 182 per 40 kg for which the provincial government also issued notification.

He added that the federal government in the last CCI meeting had decided to give Rs10.7/kg subsidy for export of sugar and the provincial cabinet in order to resolve the issue between the sugarcane farmers and the millers decided to give an additional subsidy of Rs 9.3/kg, but the federal government had not taken action in this regard.

However, addressing the conference, he said that the industrial development was linked with the health, financial strength and working atmosphere of workers. ‘If a worker is financially satisfied and receives decent wage, he is insured and there are good working conditions then industrial units will flourish’, he said. ILO country director Ch Manzoor also spoke on the occasion.
