Court extends physical remand of bank official in embezzlement case

LAHORE: An accountability court on Monday extended the physical remand of a former Agriculture Development Bank’s manager, involved in an embezzlement case, for another 10 days.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials produced the accused named Zulqarnain Chaudhry before Accountability Court-IV Judge Najamul Hassan on expiry of the remand term.

The officials requested for extending the physical remand of the accused as he was still required for interrogation purposes. At this, the court extended the remand for another 10 days and directed officials to produce the accused on Dec 21.

The NAB started an inquiry against the accused on a complaint lodged by the Lahore zonal branch in the month of October and arrested the accused on November 29.

The accused allegedly misused his authority and caused loss to the national exchequer as he got bogus loan policies encashed using fake identity cards and passbooks in the name of mentally retarded people.

Meanwhile, Accountability Court Judge Khaqan Babar on Monday extended the physical remand of an accused Abdul Waheed in the betel leaf scam for another three days.

NAB Lahore is probing a mega corruption scam amounting to Rs2.6 billion regarding evasion of duty on import of betel leaf in accordance with Pak-Sri Lanka Trade Agreement.
