Sit-in held for recovery of missing persons

KARACHI: In observance of the World Human Rights Day, the Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh (VMPS) in collaboration with Jeay Sindh Qaumi Muhaz-Aresar (JSQM-A) on Sunday staged a sit-in outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) against mysterious disappearances of Sindhi political and social activists.

A large number of people, including JSQM-A chairman Mir Aalam Marri, Ameer Hassan, Jeay Sindh Mahaz Chairman Khaliq Junejo, VMPS leader Sorath Lohar, families of missing persons and their supporters participated in the protest.

Talking to media persons on this occasion, Marri said: “Today is the international day of human rights but international institutions are silent over the enforced disappearance of political activists of Sindh, which is a matter of great concern.” He condemned the enforced disappearance of peaceful activists and demanded their immediate recovery.

“In Sindh, 20 activists of JSQM-A are missing. Such acts are intolerable” said Marri. Ameer Hassan Pahnwer of JSQM-A alleged that state forces had detained their peaceful activists.

“In the year 2017, hundreds of political and human rights activists have gone missing, but the government has not taken any solid action to recover these people,” he said.

Sorath alleged that their people had been detained by law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and now they were being forced to withdraw the protest. She appealed to all human rights organizations and international media to help recover their missing people.
