Inspector General of Police Sultan Azam Temuri on Sunday directed the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) to treat the citizens of federal capital with respect and ensure the implementation of law.
Speaking during his visit to ITP office on Sunday after taking charge as IGP, Sultan Azam Temuri said, ‘Islamabad Traffic Police is known as model force in the country and its performance will be further improved’.
Earlier upon his arrival, the IGP was presented guard of honour by a contingent of police. Traffic SSP Malik Matloob Ahmed, SP Khalid Rashid and other officers were present on the occasion.
In his address to the ITP officials, Azam Temuri said that he had great attachment and affiliation with ITP as he held command of this department twice and started his career from it.
He said it was their vision to make police an exemplary force so that people could give examples of it at the international level. The IGP said more training would be provided to police so that it could continue with its good work and serve the people. He said mission of the police was to maintain road discipline so that road accidents could be avoided.
“Police can change the thinking of the people,” adding police should be people-friendly and act in a civilised manner and enforce the law by keeping in view self-respect of citizens,” he added.
Azam Temuri urged the police to adopt professional attitude, help citizens, ensure rule of law and keep the police force corruption-free. He stressed that police should focus on enforcement and traffic regulation so that no violation was committed. He said more projects would be announced for welfare of police force.
“My doors are open for police officers and jawans and they can meet me for their personal matters,” he added. He said an SMS service would be started through which policemen could contact him round-the-clock.
The IGP expressed the hope that all officers would serve the people with sincerity and honesty.
