LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that all humans have equal rights and respect as they are born equal.
“They have conscience and wisdom so they should promote brotherhood,” he said.
In his message on International Human Rights Day, he said that the person who lives in Pakistan deserves all the freedom and rights which are significant in Islam. He added that Christian community in Pakistan is 2 per cent of the population and minorities in the country have full independence.
“The PML-N government is honoured that they have taken historic measures to ensure the protection of minority rights,” Sandhu said and added that the Christian prisoners were released for six months for completion of their religious course. Every year, he said that the government of Punjab provides a special grant for the religious festivals like Christmas, Holi, and Diwali etc.
The minister further informed that in government jobs, 5 per cent quota has been allocated for minority candidates under which more than five thousand youngsters have been given jobs in public institutions. Students belonging to minority communities are given special funds each year for scholarships, he added.
The minister said that the Punjab government has established a provincial level task force for human rights to ensure their implementation.
