Nationalist parties on Saturday held a protest demonstration here outside the Sukkur Press Club against the “settlement of foreigners in the province”.
The demonstration was staged by Sindh Action Committee — constituted by the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM) to take up the matter of “settlement of migrants”.
A large number of workers of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Sindh Taraqipasand Party (STP), and other nationalist parties participated in the protest.
JSMM Chairman Riaz Chandio alleged that the settlement of “foreigners” in Sindh was ruining the province. He raised objection over the issuance of identity cards to “Bengalis, Burmese and other foreign settlers”.
“In principle, foreigners should be kept in camps in the province. The Sindhi people are still struggling to get potable water, whereas, the rulers are launching residential schemes to settle foreigners in the province,” he said.
He said that the Supreme Court decision regarding foreigners should be implemented in its true letter and spirit. We are uniting the people of Sindh in a peaceful manner, he said and vowed not to allow what he called conversion of Sindhis into a minority in Sindh. A token hunger strike was also observed on the occasion.
