ECP deletes 2.9m dead people’s names from electoral rolls

 

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday said that the commission was performing its responsibilities with dedication and so far names of 2.9 million deceased persons have been removed from the electoral rolls.

Clarifying the news item regarding presence of three million deceased persons’ name in the electoral rolls, the ECP said that it was utmost responsibility of family members to remove the name of deceased person from voters’ lists by submitting the death certificate with the concerned union council or municipal committee.

It said that besides family members, it was also the responsibility of concerned union council and municipal committee to submit all the birth and death records with NADRA registration center besides submitting voters’ record of deceased persons with the district election commissioner.

It said, ‘The commission immediately deletes the name of any deceased person on receiving death reports from the union council, NADRA or family members’.

It said that the commission has started the scrutiny process of voters’ lists and appealed to the general public to share information in this regard with the concerned offices to delete the names of deceased people from voters’ lists.
