JI, student unions protest Trump’s Jerusalem decision in front of American Consulate

LAHORE: The religious parties led by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and various student unions are holding a protest in Lahore on Friday, in front of the American Consulate against Donald Trump’s decision of recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The student’s rally reached Press Club Chowk and slogans were raised against Trump. The roads leading to American Consulate have been blocked by placing containers whereas strict security measurements have also been ensured to avoid any untoward situation.

Earlier, JI chief Sirajul Haq said that the decision is likely to cause tensions in the Muslim world and that Trump is putting world peace at risk with such decisions.

Siraj-ul-Haq said that Trump’s statement added fuel to the fire and that he has also put international peace at stake. The senator further requested all Muslim leaders to unanimously stand against the Trump’s plan.

Sentiments of Muslims all over the world had been hurt by the decision of the US president to endorse the contested city towards Isreal’s side and of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Pakistan National Assembly also passed a unanimous resolution condemning the United States’ decision and a call to reverse the decision have been coming from all Pakistani politicians.
