HYDERABAD: The burnt body of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) provincial women wing leader Saira Naseer was found in a car parked on the outskirts of Hyderabad early Thursday morning, according to police.

The police sources said that Naseer had been murdered earlier at another location before her body was burnt in the car, since there were no indications of an attempt to flee from the burnt car.

Saira’s family had lost contact with her after Wednesday evening, when she met her son Fahad at her residence in Defence Phase-II.

Her mobile phones had been switched off since shortly afterwards, and her body was found at 3.30 am on Friday in her Toyota Corolla. A lighter, a bottle containing some inflammable liquid, two gold rings and two mobile phones were found lying on the car’s backseat.

The body was shifted to the city branch of the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH).

Hyderabad Senior Superintendent of Police Pir Mohammad Shah said, “It is purely a murder … she [was] murdered somewhere else before being burnt alive [in the car].” He further said that the believed that the murderer was nearby.

“We are obtaining her mobile phones’ call data record to analyse the recent incoming and outgoing calls,” he said.

Naseer’s ex-husband told media that he recognised the gold rings found by the burnt body and was thus sure that it belonged to Saira. He said that their children were still unable to accept that it was their mother’s body.

He further reported that on their last meeting, Naseer had instructed her son Fahad to “park the car in the bungalow as someone was coming to examine it with the intention to buy it”.

Saira Naseer was elected to the district council in the 2001 party-less elections as an independent candidate.
