‘Dhamaal’ is part of party’s history, PPP reacts to Imran’s criticism on Zardari

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) spokesperson Chaudhry Manzoor on Thursday said that doing Dhamaal [spiritual dance] is part of the party’s history.

Responding to criticism by political parties on party’s Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s dance moves at a rally held in Islamabad in connection with the PPP’s golden jubilee celebrations, Manzoor said that the party’s founder and former premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had performed a Dhamaal at the shrine of Sufi saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

He claimed that the Taliban and Imran have similar stances.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, answering a question after appearing before an anti-terrorism court on Thursday, said: “I don’t know about the rally but the way Zardari danced, he should conduct these performances more often.”

Talking to the media separately, Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed said, “Obviously, what Zardari did seems like a ‘dhamaal’ to [PPP leader] Khursheed Shah.”

“He [Zardari] was happy from the inside and doing a dhamaal from the inside,” he claimed.
