ISLAMABAD: Police officials are using the parking area in front of the Islamabad Public Library for parking at 9th Avenue service road illegally without getting any approval from Capital Development Authority (CDA), learnt Pakistan Today.

The parking area has been cordoned off with wires and fixed only for the bikers to park by police officials.

Talking to Pakistan Today, a person named Khalil Ahmed standing there at parking place for the monitoring of bikes said that he had been assigned the duty of monitoring at the parking place on the behalf of ASI Asghar.

The people looked frustrated there and said that how we can they rely on this parking place since they don’t receive any parking pay slip.

A resident Zeeshan talking to Pakistan Today alleged that different prices are being charged at the stand because the monitoring boy does not hold any slip for the fee in this parking.

“The money collected in the form of parking rent is mine since I earn only Rs500 per day and I don’t share it with anyone else,” Khalil said in response to a question. “I don’t force anyone to pay the fee for parking and if anyone willingly wants to pay, I receive that amount,” he added.

ASI Asghar while talking to Pakistan Today said that he has directed to use the place for the parking because bikes were being stolen. “Khalil keeps the amount earned through this parking stand since he is a poor man and a big amount is not collected from here and this is all done on the directions of SHO Qasim Niazi,” ASI added.

The officials of Islamabad Public Library said that police officials hold this area illegally. “This area is not in our limits and CDA administration is responsible to remove this illegal parking,” officials added.

According to sources, the police officials also hold a hut illegally within the library area.

Talking to Pakistan Today, I-9 Police Station SHO Qasim Niazi said that “I have directed the ASI to set parking place here for parking because the bikes were being stolen.”  He also repeated that the amount being collected in this regard belonged to the poor boy for the protection of bikes standing in the area designed for the parking.

CDA Member of Planning Asad Kiyani didn’t respond to any attempts made by Pakistan Today.
