JUI-S rejects alliance with MMA

PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) chief Moulana Sami-ul-Haq has said that his party’s Majlis-e-Shoura has decided not to be part of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) alliance; however, it has allowed making an alliance with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

Talking to media in Peshawar, JUI-S chief said that his party has approved to make an alliance with PTI and rejected to join MMA, an upcoming future electoral alliance of religious parties.

He said that he was ousted from MMA when he showed disagreement on certain issues last time. He said that Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman “acts like a king in MMA and dictates the whole alliance”. He said that he (Fazl) can include or exclude someone from the alliance anytime and even without any solid reason.

Replying to a question, he said that his party was in close contact with other religious parties but not interested to talk to MMA.

When asked about his alliance with PTI, he replied that it has already been made; however, a few issues related to elections are yet to be discussed and finalised with PTI leadership.

Earlier on Monday, JUI-F chief said JUI-S was attending all the meetings regarding the revival of MMA, adding that a meeting of the standing committee was convened in Lahore on December 8 on the matter. “Some important decisions would also be taken in Karachi meeting,” he added.
