Saheefa Jabbar Khattak: Breaking stereotypes

The weekend saw model Saheefa Jabbar Khattak get married in a beautiful afternoon wedding. The happy occasion was marked with lots of food, dance and a whole lot of supermodels including Sadaf Kanwal and Rehmat Ajmal.

Unsurprisingly, Safeeha received a lot of backlash from the Pakistani trolls for not being a long-haired, sharmeeli (shy) bride. At the same time, people were quick to throw questions at her about her future and whether her husband will “force” her to give up her career or whether her in-laws will approve of her clothing etc.

Right before her marriage, Saheefa put up a post on Facebook which read, “Getting married is a very mixed feeling. I’m in my blue denims and white T-shirt all day long and in the evening I’m this conventional bride to be in a yellow fancy outfit. It’s beautiful. He made it beautiful for me. There were few things which have been bothering me since the news of I getting married broke on the social media. One question that has hit me so bad & made me feel ashamed of being a woman, once again I felt that we *woman* have no self-esteem or right to choose what WE want to choose. *Saheefa what about your career, your husband gave you the permission to work?* We are getting married because we accept each other in every way be it personal or professional. My number of questions to everybody out there:- Why do you assume that women on this planet belong only in the kitchen? Why a woman can’t be empowered alone? Why do you think a woman needs a protector who has to be a MAN? Why am i told to act like a bride? What is acting like a bride btw? Again I would say we woman don’t need a man to protect us, we would always want a partner to love us, if we weren’t strong, you wouldn’t have existed.”

Saheefa made a gorgeous bride in a light, pink outfit by Fahd Husseyn. She left her short hair in their naturally curly state and did her own makeup. On the whole, she looked absolutely radiant. After all like they say, “Happy girls are the prettiest.”

Unfortunately, the negativity did not leave and Saheefa was still bombarded with questions regarding her life choices and future plans and of course her husband.

To address those issues, she uploaded a series of blank pictures on Instagram with various captions.

One of them read, “No I don’t belong in a kitchen!”

No I don’t belong in a kitchen!

While the last was captioned, “Yes He is a Shia, I’m a Sunni! Our kids would only know humanity.”

Saheefa’s attitude screams girl boss and we can’t help but admire her confidence and the fact that she is not giving in to societal pressure.

And that’s not all. The model has decided to auction her dress and donate all the money to charity.

Wishing the model a whole lot of success and well wishes for the couple.
