KARACHI: Opener Azhar Ali said on Tuesday that he was hopeful of his return to international cricket and looks forward to a green signal from his doctors regarding his fitness so that he can make a comeback in the upcoming series against New Zealand.

Ali was temporarily disabled following a hamstring injury in an ODI in Sydney earlier in January this year.

“I have been consulting my doctors on a daily basis and they are taking it one step at a time,” he said.

“It is never easy to make a comeback after an injury and it is always a frustrating time,” he said, also mentioning that the experience had given him the hope of a return to international cricket.

The former skipper said he had been working on his recovery with the doctors for over a month and now felt calm and settled on the pitch.

“I will continue my work, which I have been doing for more than a month,” he said. Adding that he had enough time to get fit before Pakistans tour to New Zealand later this month.
