Sharifs contemplating Hashmi’s return to party

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif met at Jati Umra on Sunday to discuss the possibility of bringing Javed Hashmi back in to the fold of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

According to sources, the Sharif brothers brought up the issue of reintegrating Hashmi into the party while holding discussion over different issues, including ongoing party affairs and upcoming hearings related to accountability cases.

After the discussion, the Sharifs agreed to invite Hashmi to rejoin the party. Several reservations put forward by party members in this connection were also given due consideration, especially Kalsoom Nawaz’s strong reservation.

According to insiders, Kalsoom Nawaz did not take it well when Javed Hashmi joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), even though she insisted that he should remain a part of PML-N.

Per details, Kulsoom, who is not known for being political active, arranged a meeting with Hashmi to ask him to retain his PML-N membership, but he refused the offer and walked out of Saad Rafique’s house, where the meeting was held.

Sources further said that taking back Javed Hashmi would be not be good for the ‘visionary politics’ of PML-N, adding that a middle way could be found with the approval of Begum Kalsoom only.
