RCB demolishes 18 illegal structures

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has issued notices to 93 property owners for being involved in illegal construction in the Cantt area, while 18 illegal structures and buildings have been demolished by the board in the federal capital.

Talking to reporters, RCB spokesman Qaiser Mahmood said that several raids were conducted on the directive of RCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Saima Shah. During the raids conducted last month, RCB Building Control Department teams and the owners of illegally constructed buildings and structures were issued notices.

The staff conducted raids in several areas, including Marble Factory area, Dhoke Gujaran, Bhatta Chowk, Misrial Road, Quaid-e-Azam Colony, Tench Bhatta, Peoples Colony, Dhoke Chaudharian, Afshan Colony, Peshawar Road, Chor and other areas.

The spokesman said that18 illegal structures were demolished as the owners of the properties did not get prior approval from the board and violated the rules. He said that the ongoing operation against illegal construction in RCB areas had been accelerated on the special instruction of the CEO.

To a question, he said that over 125 residential and 15 commercial building plans were approved during the last one-month period. The spokesman further informed that revenue generation efforts had also been increased after citizens started submitting their building plans to get formal approval.
