“The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will not compromise on democracy as it favours the current government—despite having differences with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz—completing its five-year tenure,” Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah said on Sunday.
Talking to reporters in Islamabad, Khursheed Shah said the PPP wanted to strengthen democracy and that could only be done if the government would complete its tenure.
Terming the clash of institutions an unfortunate chapter in the democratic history of Pakistan, he said the state was being undermined due to these clashes.
The party’s political rally at Parade Ground in Islamabad was new chapter in PPP’s political journey, he said, adding that a large number of PPP workers will flock the federal capital for the rally.
Showing concern over current crisis and its effect on the country’s global image, he said his party stood behind democracy and parliament and added the PPP always worked to strengthen parliament because it cared about “Pakistan’s image, autonomy and integrity”.
The PPP and its leadership, including Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, had severely criticised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for conceding to the demands of the protesters, who had held a three-week-long sit-in at Faizabad sit-in.
