RAWALPINDI: Polluted and contaminated water is being distributed in most parts of the federal capital, which is putting the health of citizens at risk.
People belonging to different walks of life expressed concern over the distribution of contaminated water for household use in their areas since the last many months.
The areas being supplied with polluted water, included Waris Khan, Khoti Bazaar, Jamia Masjid Road, Raja Bazaar, Amar Pura, Satellite Town, Commercial Market, College Road, Arya Mohallah, Dhoke Khaba, Umer Road, Nadeem Colony, Dhoke Elahi Buksh and some other localities.
A resident of Dhoke Elahi Buksh, namely Arshad Malik, said that polluted water was being supplied to their area which was giving rise to different water-borne diseases. “We have to fetch clean drinking water from other areas in order to remain healthy” he added.
A housewife, Asma from Nadeem Colony, expressed her deep concern over the distribution of stinking water and said that the water was not even fit for washing purposes.
Another complainant, Naeem Qurashi from Umer Road, said that due muddy and polluted water they had to purchase mineral water, which was very costly and unaffordable in the long run.
It is pertinent to mention that some localities have been facing acute shortage of water, including Fazal Town Airport, Shah Khalid Colony and Adiala Road, but the grievances of residents have not been resolved yet.
On the other hand, Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) had claimed that millions of rupees were being spent for the provision of clean drinking water, while old pipelines were being replaced with new ones to address the problem once and for all.
