ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) former senior vice president Khalid Chaudhry on Sunday called upon the officials of Capital Development Authority (CDA) to form a task force to expedite development work in the commercial markets of the federal capital, so that the people can visit these markets without facing any difficulty.

Khalid Chaudhry said that CDA had not upgraded the markets since a long time, adding that due to deteriorating condition of the roads and infrastructure in the markets, the business community was facing lot of problems in running routine business activities.

Addressing representatives of various markets, he said many sectors in the federal capital, including G-7, F-6, G-6 and G-8, were developed about 20 to 25 years ago and due to lack of proper maintenance their condition had deteriorated badly.

He further said that the state of sanitation was pathetic in the area as gutters were always seen overflowing in many markets, while CDA was paying no attention to this grave problem. The only sewerage machine with the CDA was also faulty, he added. He also said that many markets were without toilet facilities, adding that the condition of available toilets was not fit for human use.

Moreover, Khalid Chaudry said that CDA was collecting sufficient tax revenue from business centres, but instead of utilising the tax money to further develop the markets, the money was being used somewhere else.

He said the current sewage and water supply systems were more than 40-year-old and were now unable to meet the needs of a growing population, which had increased manifold. He appealed to CDA Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz to look into the issue and resolve the problems being faced by the business community and consumers.
