ISLAMABAD: Commenting on the US strategy for South Asia, Pakistan’s ambassador to the US Aizaz Chaudhry underscored the importance of Pak-US cooperation to achieve durable peace in Afghanistan, besides urging for peace, cooperation and prosperity in the region and beyond.
According to an embassy statement on Saturday, the ambassador on Friday gave an address at Georgia Tech University on ‘Future of Pakistan-United States Cooperation: Regional Peace and Prosperity’ that was followed by an interactive session as well. In the address, Aizaz reiterated Pakistan’s desire to maintain a broad-based and mutually beneficial relationship with the United States.
He was invited by Georgia Tech’s Sam Nunn School of International Affairs and Center for International Strategy, Technology, and Policy. The ambassador exchanged views with Georgia Tech leadership, faculty and staff on the current international and regional political landscape.
Giving two cents on Pak-US relations, Aizaz said that Pakistan desired to maintain a broad-based and mutually beneficial relationship with the United States that spans over seventy years.
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a regional project which has the potential to bring enormous economic benefits to peoples of the region, the ambassador asserted.
Pakistani student associations in Georgia thanked the ambassador for his input on the economic development of Pakistan and its relations with the US and other regional countries.
Later in the evening, he attended a dinner reception hosted by the Pakistani-American Community (PAC) of Atlanta. He appreciated the community’s active role in promoting friendship and cooperation between the two countries and expressed support for the PAC’s initiative to arrange a trade delegation to Pakistan. The community also invited the ambassador to visit Atlanta in February to address Georgia State Congress.
The visit was useful in strengthening engagement with academia and trade and commercial entrepreneurs in Atlanta, the embassy statement concluded.
