Speakers at an International Seminar organised by Measac Research Centre stressed the need that the international community must play a positive role to solve the problem through negotiations to foreclose possibilities of a humanitarian disaster caused by nuclear war.
Speakers, at a seminar on ‘US-DPRK Brinkmanship’ held here, spoke on the grave implications of further escalation and the horrendous end state that could result from mishandling the situation.
Brig (retd) Abdul Rahman Bilal, Sitara–e-Juraat, was the keynote speaker who analysed brinkmanship and possible war.
Professor Adeel Khan, a defence analyst spoke on EU, NATO and Korean crisis. Lt-Gen (retd) Mohammad Asad Durrani, former Commandant, National Defence College, DG ISI and ambassador to Germany and Saudi Arabia spoke on the likely impact of this conflict at global level.
Malik Atta Muhammad Khan, a senior citizen and Oxford graduate, highlighted the humanitarian dimension of the problem. Mohammad Abdullah Hameed Gul, DG, Measac Research Centre, gave the opening remarks and concluded the proceedings with distribution of shields amongst speakers.
The seminar was widely attended by foreign diplomatic missions based in Islamabad, China, Russia, North Korea, Turkey, Iran Turkmenistan, Sudan, France, India , Syria, Romania and Nigeria, Sri Lanka, including defence analysts, and intellectuals.
