KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the release of a man sentenced for collective 19-year in imprisonment by annulling his conviction awarded in explosives and illegal arms case.

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had jailed Salma alias Beena for collective 19 years on the charges possessing explosive material and weapon without a licence from the Korangi Industrial area in 2016.

The convict though his counsel challenged the punishment awarded by the trial court and submitted that the prosecution had failed to submit any concrete evidence against him. The defence counsel told the judges that the ATC did not follow due procedure while convicting Shakeel. The court was requested to set aside the judgment of the trial court and to order the release of the convict.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the SHC bench set aside the punishment and ruled that the convict should be released if not arrested in any other case.
