ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal reiterated his firm resolve of not sparing the corrupt, bringing them to the dock and recovering looted money from their possession.
Speaking at a public complainants’ hearing (‘open kachery’), he assured the seekers of justice that their complaints relating to corruption would be resolved as per NAB laws, and that he firmly believed in accountability across the board, adding that he was committed to implementing the principle of ‘accountability for all’ without any pressure or influence.
He listened to the public complaints individually, giving orders for the resolution of several of them on the spot. It merits mentioning that the chairman had promised to hear complaints that the public had regarding corruption directly.
The ‘open kachery’ would be held on the last Thursday of every month between 2pm and 4pm at NAB headquarters. NAB has asked complainants to remain punctual and bring complete applications along with their Computerized National Identity Cards.
NAB refunds Rs81.14 million to 175 complainants: NAB distributed a sum of Rs81.14 million to victims of various cases at the ‘open kachery’ ceremony held at NAB headquarters on Thursday.
NAB Chairman Justice Javaid Iqbal distributed the cheques to the affected individuals and government departments of nine cases.
An amount of Rs3.698 million was paid to 110 sufferers of the Businessman Mutual Housing Society case.
Likewise, Rs24.647 million was paid to the victims of a case against Management of Pakistan Medical Cooperative Housing Society.
NAB returned Rs3.337 of the Rs129.637 which it recovered from personnel of National Fertilizer Marketing Ltd (NFML) who were found to be involved in the misappropriation of urea.
It also recovered Rs1.558million from Muhammad Ali, who had been accused of misappropriating this money from army officers, and returned it to the army.
It also returned Rs0.7 million to four affectees in the case against Ayaz Brothers of the Parliamentarians’ Enclave Housing Scheme.
It further recovered Rs9.66 million from Tele Town Chief Executive Officer Mubasher Iqbal and returned it to 42 victims of the accused’s activities.
In case of Al-Rafia Homes, NAB is refunding Rs. 1.247 million among 12 affectees.
In the ‘State vs Overseas Employment Cooperation (OEC) Ex-Assistant Manager Zahid Ejaz Sheikh’ case, NAB recovered Rs648, 846 and refunded it to OEC.
In case of Al-Hamra (Pvt) Ltd and Management of Eden Builders (Pvt) Ltd, NAB recovered Rs1,832.168 Million from the present management of Al-Hamra (Pvt) Ltd. It also refunded Rs35.2 million to Shaheen Foundation.
