District admin cracks down against sale of winter garments at high prices

ASTORE: The district administration on Thursday started a crackdown against shopkeepers selling sweaters, blankets and woollen garments on high prices in the district.

On people’s complaints, Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir directed the magistrates and assistant commissioner to launch a campaign against shopkeepers who were selling woollen garments, sweaters and blankets at very high prices.

The magistrates conducted surprise raids in different markets and bazaars with clear warnings to shopkeepers to sell their products as per the policies and price lists approved by the government, warning that failure to do so would lead to strict actions being taken against them.

The demand for woollen garments including sweaters have increased due to the drop in temperature in the district and people are being forced to buy these products at high rates to beat the cold.

Sweaters being sold for Rs1500 to Rs2500 earlier are now being offered at between Rs2000 and Rs4000, irking many residents.

People have appreciated the crackdown and praised the district administration.
