Two dead, four injured in gun attack outside imambargah in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: An Intelligence Bureau (IB) official was killed and four others injured were injured in an incident of firing outside an imambargah in the federal capital.

Police later confirmed that one of the injured succumbed to his wounds taking the death toll to two. The incident took place in the I-8 locality of the city.

According to reports, two armed riders opened fire outside the gate of an imambargah. Emergency services shifted the injured to PIMS hospital and police started an investigation into the incident.

Industrial Area SP Liaquat Niazi told a leading English daily that four suspects on two bikes approached Imambargah Babul Ilm located in Sector I-8. Two attackers proceeded to the gate of the imambargah and opened fire on the people as they were coming out of the mosque after offering prayers, he added.

The IB official died on the spot while four others suffered bullet wound and were shifted to PIMS for emergency medical treatment. The deceased has been identified as Syed Hubdar Shah.

The relative of injured complained of non-availability of the blood in the largest Public sector hospital in the Federal Capital. They complained that doctors asked them to arrange blood for the critically injured person by themselves.

A probe has been launched and the suspects are being traced with the help of CCTV cameras, the senior police official said. According to sources, the suspects approached the area from Faizabad side and fled towards the same area after committing the crime.

Sources said that there is a checkpoint in the vicinity but no police personnel was present there at the time of the attack due to a departmental meeting.

Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal was quick to take notice of the incident and termed it a conspiracy to destabilise the country.
