Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nearly lost its authority in the centre while its prime minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, has no individual standing in the party, opposition leader Senate Aitzaz Ahsan claimed on Wednesday.
Speaking on a TV show, the senator referred to the sit-in at Faizabad interchange, saying decisions regarding dispersing the protesters were being taken at the General Headquarters instead of the Prime Minister House or residence of the incumbent premier.
Giving his two cents over the absurd incident of a Rangers officer distributing money among protesters, he said it was a sight “no one had imagined to witness”.
Taking a dig at Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he said the CM claimed that he solved the problem, but he seemed to forget that problem had originated in his province of Punjab. The protesters came to the federal capital after holding talks with the Punjab government, he said.
In a further comment on the Faizabad sit-in, Ahsan said Pakistan People’s Party was clear on their stance throughout the [over 21] days. “We were of the view that the entire matter be discussed in parliament.
“It was the right of the government to call the army under Article 245 of the Constitution,” Aitzaz said, adding the army, however, came under its own conditions.
As per Article 245, the armed forces, on orders of the federal government, shall defend Pakistan against threats and act in aid of civil power when called upon to do so.
