Iqama-holding federal minister can work as driver in KSA

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) incumbent government has been marred by a lot of controversies, including Iqama, which from time to time add fuel to the fire.

In a recent development, another minister of the PML-N has been allegedly found in possession of Iqama (permit to work abroad), which takes the total tally to three.

According to Express News, an Iqama has emerged belonging to Communications Minister Hafiz Abdul Karim, an MNA from NA-172 Dera Ghazi Khan.

The permit, present with Karim, allows him to work as a driver in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The minister has already been a part of a National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Multan probe in a fake degrees case. Degrees awarded to around 1,500 students in Karim’s native town, following a four-year-long university programme, turned out to be fake.

Moreover, the degrees were handed over to them by Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana at an official convocation ceremony.

Earlier, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif had been found in possession of the permit.

The Islamabad High Court is currently hearing a petition seeking the foreign minister’s disqualification for possessing an Iqama, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Babar Awan had also announced that his party would move the court for the interior minister’s disqualification as well.

It may be mentioned here ousted premier Nawaz Sharif was disqualified for not making known in his nomination papers that he had an Iqama to work at his son’s company in the United Arab Emirates.
